Hurry, Hurry Hurry
Sign up for the autumn Writers’ Reading Group in association with MAC Birmingham. . Starts next term on September 15th.
The Writers’ Reading group: The reading group with a difference
The Writers’ Reading group is what it says on the tin, a creative hybrid of a writing and a reading group. Led by the Hearth Centre’s artistic director and published writer, Polly Wright, the group selects novels, short stories and plays which will be great models for writing.
Past choices have included Sathnam Sanghera’s Marriage Material and Ali Smith’s How to be Both. Initial sessions spend time discussing the chosen book followed by two sessions dedicated to giving feedback to participants’ written responses to the writers’ subject and style.
The Writer’s Reading Group goes Virtual
We are glad to announce that our writers’ reading group is going on in a virtual form! We continue to share literary role models in order to learn and improve our craft of writing, but now we’re meeting through Zoom every other Wednesday. This term’s books have included Albert Camus’ The Plague and Anne Frank’s diary- and we are learning from them to write our own observations of lockdown, past and present.
More information will be published in due course on this page
If you are interested in joining our group in the future, please contact us through the contact form or by emaling Polly.wright@btinternet.com
Booker Prize
The Writers’ Reading Group has been selected to shadow the Booker Prize again for the third time!! We shadowed the International Booker and the Booker in 2018- and absolutely loved reading Vernon Subutex by Virginie Despentes and The Long Take by Robin Robertson- and now its the turn of This Mournable Body by Tsitsi Dangarembga.
