This course will introduce you to the ‘Reading for Well Being’ method which uses reading aloud as a tool to enable people to express themselves and improve their wellbeing. The method includes: Reading aloud from short stories and poems Reflecting on and sharing life experiences Facilitating discussion Creative writing On this one-day training course you will look at how reading aloud can develop confidence skills and explore techniques for creative writing and developing imaginative ideas. You will learn group facilitation techniques using a story or poem as stimulus. You will also develop your interactive skills, especially listening and helping other people to express themselves. The tutor will give you support to develop your confidence and abilities in using reading and writing as tools for working with groups. On completion of this course you will leave with a selection of tried and tested resources and hopefully the confidence to take the method further and put what you have learned into practice.
This course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years. It is open to learners of all levels. This course is Ideal for people who work with a wide range of groups and individuals and anyone who loves reading and creative writing. The course is accessible for people with disabilities and a support worker or carer may assist. Carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending a course to provide support. The room is wheelchair accessible. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.
